Being raised in the South, I’ve always had a slightly above average love for monogramming. While I’ve definitely tempered my obsession as I’ve gotten older, I still think having a personal touch can take an item (especially a gift) to the next level! With summer in full swing until at least mid-October here in Chicago, I am savoring every possible second of it.
My foreseeable future Saturdays almost exclusively consist of relaxing by the lake, pool, or any other body of water I can find. I’m also hoping we can carve out another weekend to head up to my parents’ cottage in Traverse City, Michigan! I’ll be sharing more about Traverse City in another post soon, too.
While we were up there in July, we crammed in as much time outside as we possibly could, given the short amount of time we had away from work. We spent the last day on the boat cruising around the lake with the dogs, and it had me wishing every single Sunday could look like that!
It’s tough to pose when there are ducks swimming by!
I’m really picky when it comes to finding cute beachwear, swimsuits and accessories. Given that we only have a few true months to enjoy the outdoor activities here in Chicago, I have a hard time justifying more than a few items because I simply wouldn’t have enough time to use or wear them all! That’s why when I discovered this adorable cover-up dress from Marley Lilly, I knew I had to have it.
Usually when we’re in Michigan, we jump from one activity to the next. This means that super skimpy or revealing cover-ups are a no-go, because they wouldn’t be appropriate to wear into a restaurant for a bite to eat after! I love that this cover-up was definitely casual enough to work for a pool/boat day, but also stylish and appropriate for anything before or after, too.
The details are simple, which is much more my style when it comes to preppier items these days. I think simpler is better, and has more of an age-appropriate feel to it while still capturing the essence of the style itself!
For the dress itself – I would say it fits true to size. I’m most often a M, and sometimes go to a large for certain items if I want a roomier fit. I went with a M for this and it fit perfectly! The material is so soft and comfortable, dries quickly when it gets wet, and isn’t see-through at all.
It wouldn’t be a true beach or pool day without some cute accessories, too! I love bringing a beach towel to the lakeshore and relaxing in the sun with a book for hours on end. I’m so excited I scooped up this super cute patterned beach towel to keep on hand for these warmer months. I’ve been taking it absolutely everywhere with me! There are a few other patterns, too, but I thought the sailboats were the perfect touch.
Now all I’m missing is a super cute wicker beach tote! This late in the summer, I’m waiting until they all go on sale…fingers crossed!
