I don’t think there is any activity I love more in life than reading. My only complaint I have about my reading habits is that I fly through them so quickly, they never last me more than three days! I’m super picky when it comes to choosing what books I want to read, so it can take me a while in between books to start up a new one.
On the one hand, this is great because out of the last ~200 books I’ve read, I’ve only disliked a small handful. I always know whether or not I’m going to fall in love with a plot, and if I’m not totally sold, it ends up sitting on my wish list for a long time (or forever).
The way that I often justify my excessive book purchases is that I don’t drink caffeine/coffee, so this is my replacement for that otherwise common expense! (Not exactly the same thing, I know, but just go with me on this one).
In case you’re like me and you’re always on the hunt for an amazing new read, I’ve rounded up 5 of the best books I’ve read recently that I couldn’t wait to recommend to friends! Is there anything better than suggesting a book to someone and having them love it just as much as you did?!
Pretty Girls Dancing | Kylie Brant
I had to list this one first because I loved it more than all of the others combined – no offense to the other books here, which are also great! This was one of those books that was so good I took a two week break after finishing it because nothing else I looked at seemed like it would even compare. If you’re interested in mystery/crime thrillers, this one will definitely have you staying up way too late to turn the next page.
The Thousandth Floor | Katharine McGee
I found this one from another book list, and the description on there is truly what sold me. It’s a mix somewhere between Gossip Girl and a dystopian novel, and that was really all I needed to know! Essentially, all of New York resides in a gravity-defying tower, and the higher up you live, the more elite you are. You follow the stories of a handful of characters and how they weave together, with some pretty wild plot twists! This book is also a series!
The Selection | Kiera Cass
I genuinely think this book has been recommended to me by Amazon for more than five years, and I finally caved and gave it a shot. I’m so glad that I did! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series (but I’m currently limiting myself to reading some of the other new books I’ve picked up recently before I buy any more!) The story reminded me a lot of the Hunger Games + The Bachelor rolled into one. 35 women are selected from each district and wealth status to compete to become the next Princess. Imagine if the royal wedding had occurred like this!
Final Girls | Riley Sager
I took a step away from my binge of crime thriller books for a little while (as you can see above) but I let this one slip into my recent reads and I was definitely not disappointed. I’m always cautious of giving away too many details with these types, so all I will say is that this story revolves around a group of women who all have one thing in common: being the only survivor of a mass killing incident. Dark and twisty, party of one. If you want to know more read the summary here! I couldn’t put it down.
When Life Gives You Lululemons | Lauren Weisberger
Full disclosure: I started this book last night, and haven’t finished it yet (but have barely been able to put it down!) It has gotten absolute rave reviews from several of my friends, and I totally understand why! If you’re looking for a light and funny summer read, this one is a great place to start. Books like this are always a go-to for me when I need something to keep me occupied at the pool or beach. If that isn’t enough to sell you, though, this book is a follow-up to the Devil Wears Prada! Personally, I have always thought I could use a little more Miranda Priestly. I’ll definitely let you guys know my final thoughts as soon as I finish it!
Now that summer is in full swing and my patio calls my name on a nightly basis I’m sure I’ll be able to make a ton of progress on my never-ending reading list, so keep checking back on the blog for more recommendations! You can find some of my other recent reads and all-time favorites right here, or by going to “Books” under the Lifestyle tab at the top of the blog!
I’m always looking for new suggestions, so would absolutely love it if you commented one of your favorites below!
